‘The Bayeux Tapestry to Quilt’ lecture by Pam Holland.

From Pam Holland about her lecture:
“The Bayeux Tapestry captured my heart in 1995 and I’ve been working on a re-creation of it ever since. I equate it to being my Mount Everest. The journey to complete my own version as a traditional quilt has been long, and an absolute delight to do. When home, I get up at 4.00 am and make my way out to the studio to spend the next six hours working on my project. Some days it’s just six hours, on other days its 20 hours; working on it is fascinating.”
According to Sylvette Lemagnen, conservator of the tapestry.
“The Bayeux tapestry is one of the supreme achievements of the Norman Romanesque ... Its survival almost intact over nine centuries is little short of miraculous ... Its exceptional length, the harmony and freshness of its colors, its exquisite workmanship, and the genius of its guiding spirit combine to make it endlessly fascinating.”
Pam Holland’s quilt is 230 feet long; she loves to share the story of its construction to date. You are invited to join her on the 23rd February to hear the story of its continuing creation.
