WAI Quilts Exhibition 2019

Claudelands Event Centre 5th-8th September 2019
It’s been two years since WAI Quilts was last held. My how time flies with all our commitments and work, which often interrupts our creativity and allows the sewing machine to be prone to dust.

It’s time for all of you to decide which quilts you are going to have available for display and allowing us to hang these in a great venue with lots of room and good lighting.

This is a non judged exhibition, so there is plenty of room to showcase those masterpieces created in the past 18 months – 2 years. At every Guild meeting –great work is shown. Wall hangings are very much to the fore; so, do share them with the public at this exhibition.

Please consider making time available to be one our ‘Quilt Angels’ –  wearing white gloves and ensuring all quilts are  in the right place, not fingered and remain hung.

A list to volunteer for each day will be available at the July and August meetings.

Please also ensure you make time to visit the show and in doing so, you are supporting the Guild by your presence.

Looking forward to your participation,
Pam Groube Convenor

June President's Report

The months are whizzing by and as I sit on a flight home to Hamilton after a chilly week working in Dunedin,  I thought I’d better get pen to paper (with a distinctive Southland flavour, as that is where I spent most of my week). Winter is upon us and the first snow has fallen around the Dunedin hills.

The “new” Guild Committee are right into their new (or in some case renewed roles). We are always open to hear your thoughts about anything to do with our Guild. The Committee have a plan to update all the job descriptions this year.

Please read your Newsletter carefully as we are focussing on giving you full, complete and relevant information. We rely on the details we get given, sometime these are not always right and “get lost in translation”. Special thanks to Virginia, our editor and chief translator and copywriter for being dedicated to producing our Newsletter every month. Thanks also to Sue who is helping by proof reading the draft Newsletter.

Please have another look at the wide variety of classes on offer, through the Guild. These are provided with very competitive rates for class tutors. The classes need set numbers to remain viable. Thanks to Fiona for her organisational skills and please let her know if you have any suggestions for classes/tutors for next year.

Block of the Month has not had as many participants as we would like -this is a fun experience, learning new tips and ways to improve our blocks. Please talk to Alison or me if you have any questions or would like to join in.

Some of our members have had lots of fun participating in the monthly   Scrap Quilt with a Twist.  Please see the photo attached for my WIP (Work-In-Progress). I am aiming to have it finished, so this can be displayed at Wai Quilts Exhibition…  very much dependent on work commitments in the next couple of months. Have you thought about sharing a quilt you have made to display at this non-judged exhibition? We will look after and display your quilt(s) professionally, for all to see. Please consider this- as it is a great way to share the talents of the  people we have in our midst.

Lastly thanks to all the Re-Assemble participants for taking up this challenge of creating part of a larger picture! We look forward to seeing the 20 Waikato Patchworkers and Quilters Guild pieces joined and exhibited as one “creation” at Symposium.

Happy sewing until next time. I’m now off to recheck my Symposium class email and to start planning the materials I will  need to take to classes.
Kind regards    Belinda van der Vossen
