We often receive donations of fabric from members, estates and people who are downsizing and/or cannot sew any longer. As well as fabric, we are often given leftover blocks or unfinished quilt tops. These are gratefully received and our members make up lovely quilts.
Another project is small quilts for the NICU (Newborn Intensive Care Unit) at Waikato Hospital. These quilts are given to the family of the babies. NICU quilts are 24" x 26' and must be made of 100% cotton fabric and must contain cotton batting, which the guild supplies.
From time to time other projects come up, such as, making bags for breast cancer patients. We have also made book bags for children at lower decile schools.
Completed quilts are donated to organisations that assist people in the community, such as: Salvation Army; Kids in Need, Women's Refuge, Newborn Intensive Care Unit, Waikato Hospital.
Quilts are also donated to organisations such as St John Ambulance and Surf Lifesaving Clubs to be used as raffle prizes.
People often ask what size quilt to make.
